The Place-Names of England website has been created as a collaborative project between the University of Nottingham Institute for Name‑Studies, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales (RCAHMW), and Exegesis Spatial Data Management.
The site builds on the development of the List of Historic Place Names of Wales database and website, adapting this to the methodologies used by the University of Nottingham, and extending it to allow online data entry and validation by volunteers and specialists.
