Notes "there is a very great Coal Mine in the parish which is perjudical to the vicar by destroying a great deal f grounds otherwise profitable to him. The most learned in the Law attest that if Tythe is not due (within ages) yet of satisfaction ought t e made for the land rendered useless. Mr Serjeant who was of that opinion who was Lord of Manor and Master of considerable part of the mines, yearly during his life gave two guineas towards damages as likewise did Honorable Mrs Ward, another of the proprietors and Mr Sparrow the same who rents the mine. But now it's wholly fallen into the hands of Quakers."
