Notes Is this land close to Mare brook? A name still extant and recorded in a 1008 charter boundary: VCH Staffordshire X, p. 33. (Sawyer: Charters of Burton Abbey, p. 59.) Derived from mǣre. If meaning boundary, might be to do with an estate centred on Hanbury per VCH, p. 3. In the Tutbury Honor accounts, palisades and paling is recorded apud Mareclose under Hanbury.
