Notes |
Payments of the sheriff's aid for Coppeshull' recorded in Tutbury Honor accounts. Coppeshull' is mentioned in the document in conjunction with Twycrosse, Snarkeston', Beldeston' and Norton. Twycross and Norton Juxta Twycross are proximate to Snarestone and Bilstone in Leicestershire, hence this place - Coppeshull' - may not be in Staffordshire. It could be Gopsall nearby to the other four. A Staffordshire parish has to be selected, so Tutbury has been entered. Note that PN Le 6 has forms with medial genitival inflexion -es- but the initial consonant presented in the collection of historic forms is consistently <g> not <c>. e.g. Goppeshull, 12th century. |
